"It's with mixed emotions that the upcoming India series will be my last for Australia," Healy shared, reflecting on her decision. Healy's retirement from the shortest format is immediate, meaning she won't participate in the upcoming T20Is against India. She will, however, have the opportunity to captain the ODI and Test sides at home against India, a significant series for the team. This offers a chance for a proper farewell in the longer formats.
But here's where it gets controversial: injuries have played a role in the latter part of her career, including a fractured thumb and a calf strain, which led to mental exhaustion. She explained, "I've always felt like I've had a competitive edge in that I want to compete, I want to win and I want to challenge myself on the park. I've felt as I've got a little bit older, I've not necessarily lost all of it, but I've lost some of that."
Healy's decision to retire from T20s allows Australia to prepare for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England and Wales without her. Australia will play three home T20Is against India and three away in the West Indies before the World Cup, with their first match of that campaign on June 13 in Manchester.
