In a recent interview, Lora Sauls, the Assistant Director for Creative Development and Show Direction, shared some fascinating insights. She emphasized that Max is an essential character, representing the Grinch's unwavering friendship. But here's where it gets controversial...
"Max has always been an integral part because he embodies the spirit of loyalty," Sauls explained. "No matter what, he's there for the Grinch."
Sauls highlighted the importance of casting Max for an indoor show, stating, "We knew we could collaborate with our incredible dog trainers to make Max a star of the show."
And this is the part most people miss...
"Every time Max appears on stage with the Grinch, you can hear the crowd's audible reaction. It's a magical moment," Sauls revealed.
But wait, there's more! Sauls dropped a bombshell when she revealed that all the Maxes are rescue dogs.
"Our trainers search high and low at various rescue centers to find the perfect Max. They look for the right look and demeanor. Once they become part of our show, they're loved and cared for by our entire cast," she said.
What happens when these furry actors retire?
"Typically, our trainers adopt them, and some of our cast members do too. It's a beautiful way to find forever homes for these amazing dogs," Sauls explained.
The training process is just as heartwarming. After being cast, the dogs spend time with the Holiday Spectacular Show cast and the Grinch himself.
"They learn their cues, know where to go, and even give the Grinch a high-five when he brings back Christmas!" Sauls added.
