Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is facing significant criticism from opposition members due to his apparent reluctance to account for his actions during his tenure.

NDC attorney Kojogah Adawudu has raised serious concerns, suggesting that Ofori-Atta's failure to engage with questions about his time in office could tarnish his family’s reputation for generations to come.

During a segment on Good Morning Ghana aired on Metro TV on Monday, Adawudu challenged Ofori-Atta’s evasive behavior, questioning why someone who once held a key financial role would shy away from public inquiry. "Why are you trying to escape accountability?" Adawudu pressed. "As a former finance minister, you should understand the importance of transparency and stewardship. Why not come forward and address the concerns of the people of Ghana?"

He painted a stark picture of the potential legacy Ofori-Atta might leave behind, asking pointedly, "Is this the kind of heritage you wish for your children? A legacy where their father was unaccountable, where he faced allegations of misappropriating public funds? Is this truly the inheritance you want to pass on to your family?"

Adding to his critique, Adawudu drew parallels between Ofori-Atta’s current circumstances and the fate of his great uncle, J.B. Dankwa, who tragically died while in government custody during Ghana's early years under President Kwame Nkrumah.

"The shadow of history looms large over your family narrative," Adawudu remarked. "Given the troubling events surrounding J.B. Dankwa, particularly his untimely death in detention, is this the legacy you aim to repeat and hand down through the ages?"

He went on to question Ofori-Atta’s approach toward law enforcement, emphasizing that cooperating with legal investigations should not be viewed as a humiliation. "When approached by the police, if you choose to go willingly, they won't resort to using handcuffs," Adawudu explained. "I was taken aback when the Office of the Special Prosecutor labeled him a fugitive; however, his current actions suggest he is indeed evading responsibility."

Furthermore, Adawudu argued that Ofori-Atta's Christian faith should inspire him to confront scrutiny rather than evade it. "As Christians, we believe that this world is temporary," he stated. "Ultimately, we are accountable for our actions. So, why are you choosing to avoid that accountability now?"

These comments arise amid reports regarding Ofori-Atta's recent detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) concerning visa issues.
