Get ready, boxing fans, because the clash we've all been waiting for might finally be happening! Rumors are swirling that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are set to face off in a highly anticipated showdown as part of the Riyadh Season in 2026. This potential bout has been the talk of the town for years, as these two titans of the heavyweight division, both considered among the greatest of their generation and two of the best British heavyweights ever, have yet to meet in the ring.
The report, originating from The Ring Magazine, owned by Turki Alalshikh, the head of Riyadh Season, suggests that this mega-fight is in the works. But here's where it gets controversial... both Fury and Joshua are also slated for separate fights during the 2026 Riyadh Season, adding even more excitement to the calendar.
Anthony Joshua is currently gearing up to fight Jake Paul later this month, marking his return to the ring after a defeat by Daniel Dubois in September 2024. Meanwhile, Tyson Fury is technically retired following back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk, the WBC, WBA, and IBO champion. However, Fury has a history of announcing his retirement only to return to the ring, so anything is possible!
Remember the near miss of 2021, when a fight for the undisputed heavyweight champion title between these two British stars seemed within reach? It was close, but Deontay Wilder exercised a rematch clause after Fury stopped him in their second fight, leading to a third bout. Joshua, in the meantime, had to face Usyk.
Joshua (with a record of 28-4, 25 KOs) lost a unanimous decision to Usyk, while Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) defeated Wilder in the 11th round to defend his WBC heavyweight title. Usyk then went on to defeat Joshua again in a rematch before ultimately beating Fury twice in 2024, the first victory crowning him the undisputed heavyweight champion.
